DIGITAL PAINTING
A New Art Form for the Twenty-First Century
The digital revolution in culture first took root in music; it then spread to writing and visual mediums. Digital painting is part and parcel of this revolution.
The artist uses the computer as a new creative tool. To the artist, the computer monitor is just another medium, akin to canvas, cardboard or any other conventional medium used by a painter. The computer provides art tools (brushes, colors, etc.). The ability to delete and undo releases the artist from the constraints of a linear process. The technique offers freedom to try things out and then go back; it allows the artist to dare to risk without damaging previous work -- something that was impossible in traditional painting practice.
Art works can be printed on increasingly varied and high-performance mediums, from canvas to paper, Plexiglas, and aluminum -- with custom sizes and formats.
Digital painting is the result of a technological breakthrough in motion, a true adventure. Because everything is new (the technology, approach and mediums), everything is research and experimentation.
